Day 365 – Harvelle’s Blues Club
Harvelle’s is a blues club in Santa Monica that has been around since 1931. They have another location in Long Beach as well, but I haven’t been to that location. The Santa Monica location is one of the oldest bars in Santa Monica, if not the oldest. I’m a little bias towards this place because one of my friends is the owner. They have a live show every night, but on Thursday and Sunday they have burlesque which is quite good. So this was a place where you’d go for music and drinks. There is a $10 cover at 8pm and they have a full bar. They open at 8pm except for Mon, Tue, Wed and Fri where they have a happy hour. If you’re into jazz or burlesque you should definitely come and check it out. The band usually starts playing around 9-9:30pm, but if you show up before 8 there is no cover. Personally, while I love music, I’m not into live shows. If you’re into live shows, you’ll enjoy it no matter what. But if you just want to check out a cool old bar, then do what I do which is go for happy hour. Friday’s are usually the best night for happy hour. You should check it out though just for the history.
