Day 349 – The Gaslite

Anyone who lives in the Santa Monica area knows about The Gaslite. The Gaslite is a karaoke bar that seems like it’s been around forever. They do karaoke every single night. Usually people either love or hate this place, no in between. Well the first thing I found annoying is that they have a decent sized sign out front that says “Open at 6 am”, yet they don’t actually open til 4pm. If you’re like me, you’re not someone who likes crowds, loud noise or karaoke. So this is definitely not the place to go ….. that is from 8pm and on. I went in just after they opened at 4pm and I had the entire place to myself. Up until karaoke goes on at 8, the place is quiet, not busy, can get a drink pretty quickly, and enjoy yourself. They have a couple of booths you can enjoy (unless they are reserved because of some party). And the drinks were decent prices, especially for Santa Monica. But I’d stay away after 8, since it gets really crowded, and from Yelp reviews I’ve heard that unless you know the person who runs karaoke, putting your name down won’t mean much since they usually just let their friends go up. But like I said, if you go in there before 8pm, you should be able to enjoy yourself. I found the bartender Mai to be awesome.
